Factor VIII deficiency is treated by replacing the missing protein through injections of factor VIII concentrate, which can be derived from donated human blood or produced through recombinant DNA technology. Factor VIII concentrate is administered by injection and the dosage and frequency depend on the severity of the deficiency and the individual's bleeding risk. Factor VIII (FVIII) is an essential blood clotting protein, also known as antihemophilic factor (AHF). In humans, factor VIII is encoded by F8 gene. Defects in this gene lead to hemophilia A, a recessive X-linked coagulation disorder. Factor VIII is produced in hepatic sinusoidal cells throughout the body and in endothelial cells on the outside of the liver.
Used for Patients diagnosed with Haemophilia A.
Dried factor VIII Fraction is present in 250 IU and 500 IU preparation of clotting factor VIII.
